I saw this today and I am confused.
This house was built in 1997 and is in the city limits. There is no well system.
Why is there a pump here? I could make it kick in by using the sink but the pressure gauge was not operating.
I saw a similar set up a few weeks ago on a 1910 house. That one had a pump and an expansion tank after the city water meter.
Any help is appreciated!

There could be many reason for poor flow a squashed pipe ,mineral build up in the pipe ,a long distance from the supply with a small feed pipe .these are just a few of reasons .
I would make sure to note in your report about the additional pump being very unusual and recommend further evaluation by a Plumber .
It seems to me that a pump would have little effect on restricted flow unless there was also a cistern or holding tank to collect the water, such as for a trickle system.
A pump with no cistern would be useful if the pressure was low but available water was not restricted, like maybe the house was high on a hill or something. The supplying utility probably knows more about what is going on here than a random plumber.
If the house is at the end of the city limits, or the far end of a development, it might have really low pressure from the city.

Ok guys, Ive been using the HF water pumps for 15 years now, and the work well for me. My domestic water comes from a 500 gallon tank with 500 feet of pipe (300ft of 2"- 200ft of 1") approx 80 ft above my house up on the hill behind my house, fed by a spring of good water. Buy the time it enters my house I have 20 lbs of pressure already. I use the HF pumps to take it up to 60 lbs pressure. Until 3 weeks ago I was using HF Item# 69302 1 Horsepower Shallow Well Pump with Stainless Steel Housing. In 15 years I have gone through 2 of these pumps and not because they fail, because the impellers wear down and the pump runs longer and longer to make it to 60 lbs. So instead of fixing them I just replace them. Now, I spent a little more money and bought this pump and It works great! Pumps fast, hits 60 lbs pressure and shuts off. The instructions say that the controller will turn on at 20lbs. This didnt work for me since I already have 20lbs coming into my house, so I did not plumb the controller in. Instead I used my old pressure switch for my old pump (not the HF one, I bought a good high quality Square D brand, for pump control). The controller is still connected electrically but I set it on the side upside down (or It wouldn’t let the pump run, It thinks there is no pressure). I replaced the prime plugs, with pure brass plugs, because in the other pumps I had problems with them rotting away and leaking.But that may be because of my water may be a bit on the acidic side. I didn’t need the little tank under the other pump, I have an 80 gal pressure tank that allows long off times for the pump. So far so good, I’m going to get another for a spare.

This is the perfect booster pump for household use. ie, with two hoses running the pump maintains 50psi, no drop in pressure and maxium water flow in the system, price and quality, very good, 1/3 the price of others companies that I have compare this with My first pump would not cut off, I returned it and was given another pump, same problem and I realized at this point that the auto on/off will not work if you have a pressure tank in the system no problem, I installed a pressure switch and it works perfect ( cut on at 40psi off at 58psi. I bought a spare pump, because past experience, ie if it fails it will do it on a weekend or holiday. use gas tape ( yellow ptfe) on all connections.

I’ve not had any of the issues that the other reviewers have had. It was not difficult to install. It has worked as expected and has given good service and good, consistant household water pressure (showers are great now). It is mounted in the basement and is quiet enough that I can not hear it operate from the living quarters upstairs.
