Hello all, I’m back again with some questions regarding stucco installation. So I work in New Mexico were stucco is commonly used as siding. Any way I did a new build recently and I keep seeing where there is gaps and the osb siding and possibly the sill plate can be seen by the foundation. Any how I call it out as a possible defect and to have the builder correct it. The most recent house I did the stucco sub contractor is saying this is how it’s supposed to be done for ventilation purposes. I don’t believe that’s correct and I’ll be freshening up on my stucco courses. Any help is appreciated in the matter. I believe the stucco is EFIS.
The way new builds are being thrown up in Mach speed since the housing boom has been very interesting from the inspection standpoint. Feels like the standards have declined for quantity instead of quality.
It is that first photo I have concerns with besides the overhanging bottom plate. It appears weep screed is in front of the insulation board. Drain planes are hard to verify from this angle because that insulation board (Styrofoam in this case) may have grooves in the back.
Great point. Thank you for the photo. I do believe the insulation was installed behind the weep screed and unfortunately I’m only able to see some of the construction from this point of view.
