Rafters in a attic space

I came across these rafters in an attic space today. I have never seen anything like this. What do you guys think? Does this appear to be installed correctly? Every rafter in the attic was like this. I did not see any signs of failure and the roof felt solid when walking on it.

See the picture - there is a hinged connecting plate on the rafter. This is a manufactured/modular home. Is this connector ok? It can flex because it’s hinged. I put up some more pics of other uses of these hinges. I think they got a discount on them and put them everywhere they could. And I’ve been told that a little blue pill will help that lower hinge to make it look like the top one.
