I don’t ever recall seeing these before. 1974 condo in Lahaina, HI. No real question or problem… just curious if anyone else has seen them.
One time only…years ago in an old port city store front commercial building with living quarters above. That service had been updated/expanded from knob and tube at some point along the way. Very odd.
Westinghouse.
Bryant
Defunct.
My WAG is they were color coded to the rated amperage? I’ve personally never seen them.
Lot of 2 Cutler Hammer Red Handle 20 AMP Single Pole Breakers | eBay
I thought that too since other manufacturers do that but nope… all different. The two black ones I suspect are from the remodel a few years ago.
These red handles appear to be the same as the common tan handled breakers however it looks like the red handled breakers are listed for aluminum or copper conductors. According to the label on these breakers it appears that the old tan handled are copper only.
Some examples from Ebay:
Red:
Tan:
We’ve seen those (although they were Bryant) from time to time in older homes.
