Safety practices

Going through the safe practices for a home inspector, if a crawl space is too small for a person to inspect, would using an RC car with a light and camera attached to it be okay to use for a more through inspection instead of omitting the crawl space entirely?

Simple answer is Yes

I will also add that you need to report the limitations and the inspection method used in your report.

Sure it would be, until your expensive crawler gets stuck in an inaccessible area.

That’s why you need to have an Inspector Dog like @bhull1 has to retrieve it when that happens.

How big’a boy are ya?

Sure, until you get sued for missing something your ‘Toy’ didn’t/couldn’t see and they want you to pay for the repairs.
Gee… Perhaps you should have disclaimed that crawl after all.

Oh, yes. That is one way to do it.

Other inspectors may use trained mice to detect anomalies within the floor, wall and attic structures because their service doesn’t want to omit any part of the home.

Can they then advertise a “complete” home inspection? Or, should they incorporate a microscope into the inspection process?

I got my robot stuck on a sewer pipe yesterday about 15 ft into a dirty crawlspace. I had to crawl in and get it unstuck. I then continued the inspection to the end of the crawl and back. On the return trip I hit the pipe full speed and jumped the pipe like the dukes of hazard.

I should have sent in inspector dog from the start. She is so much more nimble than a stupid robot.

Been in some every uncomfortable positions in crawl-space’s and thought about RC crawlers and backed away. Not enough work related need to take on the expense.

Your got me thinking, Kevin. Tie a flexible relatively thin cable to the back of the crawler so you can give a light tug to escape entrapment situations when needed.
Just a thought.

Nice dog, Bert. Looks super friendly. Not a concern in the world entering tight spaces.
Good for you.

The CMU are wicking moisture. Does that water line have to be suspended and secured to avoid damage?
