Separate kitchen counter and GFCI

Does a separate kitchen counter require GFCI protection if it is 6’ away from the faucet? In the picture, the sink is on the island. The way I understand it, ALL outlets require GFCI in the kitchen except for refrigerator, disposal and oven. Is this understanding accurate?

sorry, here’s the picture.

If the disposal is via a receptacle under the sink (as opposed to hard wired), that is required to be GFCI protected now as well.

In the 2011 NEC only receptacles that served the counter top surfaces (including islands and peninsulas) required GFCI protection. That has been broadened under the 2014 NEC to include all receptacles within 6’ of the sink and dishwashers. You need to know what code cycle the installation originally needed to comply with.
