Shark Bite on New Construction

On a New Construction house with an insane amount of problems. They have PEX and

used Shark Bite fittings for almost every connection they could, including the main shutoff valve.

Write it up or let it go?

On what grounds would you “write it up”?

I’m not a plumber. I do a lot of plumbing, I fix a lot of plumbing, I see a lot of plumbing.

Two things I’ve never seen leak. Viega Pex fittings(The brass ones), Pro-Press fittings and Sharkbites. I’m not saying they don’t leak, I’m quite sure it’s happened.

Everything else I’ve seen leak, including copper. I’ve seen Uponor/Wirsbo blow clean off. In fact, I see old leaky copper kinda all the time now.

Not sure why any professional plumber would choose Sharkbite for fittings. The fittings would not be much faster to install than PEX & Propress fittings and the material price difference between them would huge.

Agreed…

Did you mean Pureflow fittings?

I’m still trying to wrap my head around using pro-press with Pex. I had to look up and see if it’s even possible.

Propress is for the copper connections.

Oh, right. Agreed. The Viega bronze pex ones aren’t much cheaper than Sharkbites. They don’t leak though.

The Viega poly fittings I’ve seen get broken.

Never seen a SharkBite leaking. Heard of it. But it is a big country and every bad thing that can happen will happen. SharkBite is not a defect, but a questionable financial choice by the plumber. I just used several SharkBite valves as a convenience for speed when I added a second water heater. As a home inspector, nothing to report and move on.

New construction?
There is enough in those photos alone to at least have a serious discussion regarding what actually has happened in that home! Legal or not, it is unconventional at best for new construction to have the plumbing system with multiple mixed materials.
Copper with Pro-Press.
Copper with Sharkbite.
PEX with Sharkbite.
PEX with AL connector rings.
Kinda-sorta looks like thieves got in and stole the copper, and the builder had whoever he could get to make quick repairs before the AHJ showed up raised a stink!
IMO, if you don’t at least mention the situation in your report to CYA, you may live to regret it with future liability!
