There’s no need to break the tab. A duplex receptacle will be OK. Appliances are often on dedicated circuits but the circuits use a duplex receptacle. Look at the kitchen appliances. You will see that they are usually plugged in to duplex receptacles.

Your examples are correct.
I added a ‘single’ 15 AMP recp. on a 20 AMP GPBC.
Example: SABC with refrigerator on that circuit. Frig can be a single 15 AMP recp.
