Has anyone every heard of a “Spectra Water Furnace”? I am not sure what this system has do with the heating and cooling of the home other than the home was heated through the floor system with a Geothermal heat pumping unit… The pump itself was located in the crawlspace… I have attahced a picture… But the home does not have an AC condencing unit as most all homes do (but not in this case). I have done some research on the Geothermal efficiency ratings and set up.
Has anyone come across this type of unit possibly located in the Northern colder states of the country.

Geo Thermal Heat Pumps work just like an air source heat pump or a normal air conditioning unit.
The difference is that an air source heat pump or normal air conditioning unit have an inside coil and an outside coil with refrigerant circulating thru them.
A geo thermal heat pump (Spectra Water Furnace included) only has an inside unit because the "outside unit" is either water from one or more wells (open loop) or a water based solution circulating thru a closed loop of pipe buried in the ground (closed loop). Circulating pumps, such as BOTH of those in the picture, take the place of a compressor in the outside unit. Their operation is controlled by thermostats in the home.
Educational Links for those researching geothermal heat pumps.

Erby - Just as I expected - your explannation realy puts things in perspective…I am sure there is alot more to learn. Thanks for adding the addtional links, I will do a little research on my own.
