Charlie has a point, if it is not installed level, or the wall plane is not true in an direction, there could be water intrusion through the gaps. A better design would have wider sections to limit vertical joints. Also see an issue with the limited width, a resulting consequence being larger gaps where the wall is bowed.

The siding installer will have no control of the underlying framing.

Probably works great in desert climates.
