Steel Beam termination question.

This was a two year old home. The beam termination was only visible on one end, the other side being finished. The supporting post was 6 feet from the end. I reported that the beam needs steel shims welded in place instead of the loose scrap wood used. Now the new owner questions the other side. Question; Does the distance of the support post matter or should this be properly shimmed?

The beam needs to be properly shimmed to the bearing wall. The support post is secondary.

That’s what I thought, but it always helps to ask.
Thanks
