The first time I have seen around here, I had #6 copper THNN

GES conductor at the meter and water heater.

It was protected and attached correctly.

Does anyone know a problem with "stranded" vs. "solid"?

No problem using an insulated stranded conductor. Using a stranded conductor makes the installation easier & neater (fewer kinks).

From the 2005 NEC, 250.62 "...The conductor shall be solid or stranded, insulated, covered or bare."

That’s what I was looking for Tom, thanks!

I have a lot of problems with stranded wire connections which are improperly terminated (too much wire under a screw ect...) . I didn't know if there was some code issue that considered that. We use 99.999% solid #8 around here (new construction and very old homes as well).
