Tankless in a garage; exhaust condensate questions

Navien V65i in a garage:

Does this require a condensate drain? I don’t have an image of the other side of that wall, but it’s a very short exhaust run going straight out. I found this image in the unit’s manual regarding a horizontal exhaust without a condensate drain:

As you can see, the exhaust pipe in the diagram is pointed downward slightly. You may be able to tell from my image: the exhaust on my water heater is slightly pointed upwards. But its only like 18" long or so. Would you recommend a condensate drain on this?

Absolutely. If you can confirm it is not sloped towards the exterior, it needs a drain.

Exterior pics would help, otherwise… :man_shrugging:

You should also confirm if that is or is not PVC on the TPR valve. I can’t tell for sure from your pic.

You have a Rinnai brand not Navien and by that model number it is a HIGH-EFFICIENCY (NON-CONDENSING) TANKLESS WATER HEATER

thanks. that’s what I meant.

I do not see it pointing upwards. The down angle begins after the elbow connection, which is covered up. This is accomplished by angling the horizontal pipe down at the elbow connection.

If you have verified the upward slope, then as stated previously, a condensate drain is required.

And here are the vent kit installation instructions, verifying that the upward slope needs a condensate trap and the downslope does not.
