I would not want to write up this situation as a problem because I see a #12 tap off of a #6 on a 50amp breaker, have it meet all the requirements and look like an idiot. Bottom line is that unless your local code says no, it is allowed if properly installed IAW the NEC.

this is why i posed a question like this. me no like egg on my face for saying something bad that is acceptable.

Great communication with everyone.

PS. Bob Badger, you may have to refrain from responses until us "common folk" chime in and take a shot at it. No offense ![icon_wink.gif](upload://ssT9V5t45yjlgXqiFRXL04eXtqw.gif) but my adult league men's hockey team could use Wayne Gretzky to help us but we need to learn some things on our own. ![icon_biggrin.gif](upload://iKNGSw3qcRIEmXySa8gItY6Gczg.gif)

Yes some electricians have trouble understanding taps when first exposed to them, just a learning curve and most pick it up once it is explained to them. ![icon_smile.gif](upload://b6iczyK1ETUUqRUc4PAkX83GF2O.gif)

Most times it is only because they care about safety that they want to know why taps are safe. ![icon_cool.gif](upload://oPnLkqdJc33Dyf2uA3TQwRkfhwd.gif)
