What is the law for doing inspection using a drone if the inspector is licensed?
Do you have your FAA license to fly the drone?
What state?
If you fly it near a child’s bedroom window they have a right to shoot the pervert down!
You will know the law if you get licensed to fly your drone.
Shoot the pervert? or shoot the drone? Or both?
Your home inspection license does not give you permission to fly a drone on the job, as all air space is controlled by the FAA. Visit the FAA site to get more info. Take a drone class and take your FAA part 107 test to get licensed to fly the drone. There is too much involved to write the laws in a post. Just get licensed. But I will tell you that if you fly without a drone license and get caught, the very first time, the FAA will find you at least $10,000. There is no exception to the law.
To add to what @wjones18 said, and he is correct…to start you need a FAA 107 license as you are getting paid money for what could be associated with the drone use.
You should have additional insurance from your liability provider covering this. It is relatively nothing in the grand scheme of things for the add on if not included, but be sure to disclose this when you set up your G/L insurance
I would strongly encourage you to not use it unregistered. I have a friend that does septic layouts & installs and thought it would be cool to mark up a drone image for mapping and quoting. This bit him hard as he did one for an FAA employee, unregistered unit and unlicensed pilot = fined and fees of about $12K in total.
Needless to say, he did not win the job either to help pay for it.
Yes shoot them all and let God sort it out!
no I don’t is that an expensive license to get?
I live in central Florida
only for roof top where I can not reach by ladder or due to damage
Thank you for all the responses they were all insightful and informative I was just wondering if this technology was part of the inspection process
Click on the link I posted above. You will find everything you need to know about a Part 107 UAS Certificate.
Check the link in post 10.
Gerald, simply put, if you’re going to use a drone within your business, you need to get licensed by the FAA. If you have one for fun, possible not depending on where you live and local restrictions.
And yes, drones come in handy but are not a simple excuse for other means of roof inspections.
