NACHI recognition Tennessee Dept. of Commerce and Insurance Board for Licensing Contractors. States that the State of TENNESSEE does accept certification from NACHI. Real estate Inspections are not regulated as hard as Code Inspectors. The only limitations with this certification only is you can not inspect a new construction.

Tennessee will only accept an Organization Certification if your Test includes Code Enforcement. I am working on ICC’s Residential Code Inspection. Tennessee currently only accepts International Code Council Certifications, ASHI Certification and Home Inspectors of Tennessee Cert. ( I am not sure this one exist because I have not been able to reach anyone or find any info about them.

Melissa,
Any luck on getting the information regarding new home construction inspections? I've been attempting to contact some folks, but haven't had any luck at the gov. level. If there's anything I can do, let me know.

NACHI info has reached Tennessee Board of Insurance and Commerce and will be introduced before the board sometime next year. Our laws for home inspectors has not been updated since 1997. Keep your fingers crossed.

What are you reading? The link to the law is posted a few posts above. Read it again. There is only a suggestion to the Govenor by the people who proposed it that the Govenor "strive" to put one member on the board who is a member of ASHI.
Am I misreading it. It seemed OK to me that one of the 7 members of the board is a member of ASHI.
This law can't hurt you. What am I missing here? How will this stop you from being a home inspector in TN?
It doesn't require you to be a member of any association. If I'm wrong will someone please point out how. This is the 3rd time I read a bill and came away with a much different take on it than the members in the state where its being proposed.

Sorry Nick, I replied to Kenneths note while not even reading the document. I’ve read it and understand it.
Sorry for the confusion...
There was a little sarcasim in the note also. Sorry I kept a straight face while saying " I won't be a HI in TN"... ![icon_eek.gif](upload://yuxgmvDDEGIQPAyP9sRnK0D0CCY.gif)

I should have been a little clearer when I posted the link
This is not any type of law yet. It was only filed for introduction to the floor. Please read the entire bill. Yes there is a grandfather clause in this one and yes there is good and bad in the introduction. Remember this can change in the process to getting passed or rejected.
I only posted the link so anybody interested could follow it through the process.

My bad, I re-read it and you are right nick and I am wrong. Wonder if we can get that 1 Ashi member changed to 1 member of a national home inspection org. Just doesnt seem right that ASHI has 100% chance of one of their memeber to sit on the board and we dont…IMO
