Good Morning and Happy new year. I’m just reaching out to see if anybody tests for hard water in there standard inspection. Thinking about adding this into my reports to help differentiate myself from others. This wouldn’t be a comprehensive water test. just a simple test.
I do it for well water occasionally. Most wells around here have hard water so the test generally tells if the water softener is working. I am a city boy so I can tell just by tasting the water.
Most water companies will perform the same hardness test for FREE, and many DIY stores will have FREE test strips in their Plumbing Departments near the Water Softeners.
i think it would be a good add on. especially if you could get the strips for free. i’d make sure to put a good disclaimer in though. since it’s a free test if it were wrong, would you assume the liability if something were to happen? i’d check that out first.
Just like another post, you seem to have an issue with the word “WRONG”!
He’s in Minnesota… We have HARD water, period!
Ain’t no liability in speaking the truth!!
I think it’s an ok idea and could give an indication on if the water softener is functioning. I would come up with a few protective disclosures/limitations though. One would be that the test is being performed as a “preliminary, information only, basic test” and is meant to identify if a more thorough water analysis is needed. Something like that anyway. I would also consider doing two test strips, just because I don’t have a ton of faith in the strips, although that could change if they consistently turn up the same. I tell clients that I am not able to verify if the softener is functioning, this could be a good way to somewhat close that small loophole (with proper limitations disclosed).
