What?

As far as young inspectors getting beat up on this forum a young one came out swinging and started all of the controversy on this thread. I still haven’t figured out what his exact motive is.

No offense Patrick, but the only instances I ever notice a rookie inspector getting “beat up” are for one of the following. 1: They fail to ask a question properly or don’t provide enough information for others to answer said question accurately. 2: They don’t proofread their posts. (Poor grammar is just annoying) and 3: They didn’t take the time or make the effort to research the answer themselves before presenting it on the forum.

Priceless Meme

Just jumping in here cause I just noticed this post. As the education director of the Heartlands Regional InterNACHI Chapter that Pat is in … I’m gonna point out a couple of things.

I don’t have a business Facebook page; don’t do web site SEO stuff; have no earthly idea how to do one of those U-tub videos that helps newer inspectors, etc … so I’m probably not well known on the internet, and yet I was also nominated along with Pat and several others for the award last year. If memory serves me correctly I think I may have been runner up. Pat is constantly thinking up ways to help the other inspectors (newer or experienced); he’s actively involved with our chapters workgroup helping battle another associations attempt to hijack the state legislative process in HI licensure bills, etc.

Other than the fact he’s ex-Army I think he’s a great guy and glad he’s on our side.

Semper Fi !

One other thing … What does Member of the Year have to do with ASHI selling mailing lists ???

I spent 10 yrs as a licensed REA; I’m a licensed home builder; many groups I’ve belonged to including credit card companies, etc over the years sell mailing lists to others including ASHI ( Your name, your mailing address ). Heck I used to buy them myself to send notices of educational seminars to them.

NEVER seen ASHI themselves sell your phone or email address

That was my fault. I mistook Larry’s post as sarcasm and asked the question that derailed the thread. We have PMd each other and he assured me he was not being facetious and I apologized to him for thinking he was. All is well.

I have no idea who you are, but it appears to me that you have childishly politicized an awards process with snowflake tactics.

Did you graduate high school? Not just getting a diploma, but socially as well? To some members FaceFook is an extension of junior high popularity contests. FF is losing ground with younger segments of the population, maybe (Internachi) should focus on Twitter or Vine or Snapchat? Except that the majority of good inspectors are older.

Kind of fits how you are attempting to highjack a criteria narrative into a field you are more comfortable in order to benefit… yourself? Some of the backstory is missing, therefore the question.

You do seem to have a minor point in that the criteria should be clarified. Did FaceFook exist in 04’? Will it exist in 10 years? If someone’s career perspective is limited to a few years or decades, do they have the necessary perspective to REALLY improve the field they are in? Lark Fookaburger is a perfect example of how someone young does not change anything. He stole someone else’s idea, psychopathically betrayed his fellow students private info, was backed by a CIA front company and the rest is social media fairy tale history!

I am going to tie this digression back into the original thread. Does anyone here think that ASHI selling their (snail / e) mail list is anywhere as insidious as FF selling the internet content that vacuum up? And their reluctantly acknowledged function of intentionally changing behaviour? How does the use of FF damage the home inspection industry? Blatant and hidden, both.

You should run for political office!!!

@jdeoliveira2 FYI - your website link does not work.

Thank you for that information Shannon.

’ In 2012, singer Taylor Swift teamed up with sponsors Papa John’s and a textbook rental company called Chegg to send Swift to perform for the school that received the most votes on Facebook. The school would also receive a $10,000 cash prize to be put towards their music department.

When 4chan got wind of the competition, they sprang to action and hijacked the contest, skewing the results so that the winning school happened to be a school for the deaf. ’

" Mountain Dew made the mistake of putting on a competition where people could vote for the name of the new mountain dew. 4Chan had millions of daily visitors so they can basically guarantee a victory in polls. They called the competition dub the dew, the three most popular ones were “Fapple” at number three, “Gushing Granny” at number two, and at number one “Hitler did nothing wrong”. “Diabeetus”, and moist nuts also made an appearance. For some reason Mountain Dew refused to call it “Hitler did nothing wrong”, despite it’s objective truth. "

TIME Person of the Year !!!

image

’ Another one of Time magazine’s polls allows readers to vote on who they think the person of the year should. And 5.6 million people voted for Kim Jong Un, to help him win an overwhelming victory over less deserving candidates like Malala Yousafzai, and Jon Stewart. Even though 97% said that Kim Jong Un should be Time magazine’s person of the year, Time still decided to make it Barack Obama. ’

What does graduating high school have to do with this? Ask Nick what grade he made it to…I don’t think he graduated and he kinda did ok, no?

So what Shannon said was wrong? I didn’t see any logical arguments against his points. What he said was logical, and contains validity.

Yet, it seems the same old people want it their way.

I agree it should be Inachi message board inspector of the year.

Thanks for the input Shannon

The perfect analogy

You’re Stuck In A Metaphor

It ain’t what you do, but the way that you do it :grinning:

Great Idea!

We should create a special category for Inach FaceFook inspector of the year just for Shannon!

Much logic

Thanks, @rhensel . It is the typical, “this is the way we’ve always done it” argument that is the downfall of most businesses. Failure to adapt to a changing industry… luckily they are not the BoD. Everyone on the committee are on the downslope of their careers or already retired, so it is difficult for them to think about change from what they believe is successful (or at least what has worked for them in the past).
I made a suggestion on how to make an Association-level award more inclusive to the membership, as a whole, and was personally attacked. That speaks volumes as to the character of the people who chose to do that.

@mgoldenberg - It is a pretty terrible analogy, as it has no connection to any suggestion I made. I have never said there should be a Facebook vote or an open vote by non-members. In fact, I am against that. The award should always be voted on by the membership.
Not to mention the scenarios that @jdeoliveira2 is talking about… the voting was open to the public and served as marketing.

Anyway, I have tried to stay out of this thread as I already did enough damage in derailing it from the original subject.

Maybe it is time for you to stop shooting your mouth to everyone and start reading a few of these post

by post and maybe you will get a little insight of why we decided to vote for MOTY within the committee instead of the general membership.
As volunteers, we can only take so much BS. We contribute a lot of our time to this to try and appease most, but can’t to all.
You don’t seem to understand that the committee cannot monitor the performances of members outside in your facebook sand box and we cannot control the solicitations for votes when these awards are set up for voting.
