Today I Learned - Insulated Window

Ford used to make some damned fine insulated Windows. There were (3) about 5’x8’. Could that date - 1975 - be right?

Back in the day they put the date of manufacture etched into the glass, now they use a date code,

Yep, back then we used many discards from sliding doors (I think 34”x76”) for other uses like green houses , hot boxes and such.

Ford dug four miles of caves in the Minnesota sandstone to get the sand for making glass.

The most remarkable tunnels in Saint Paul are the four miles of sand tunnels 100 feet beneath the Ford Plant site. The idea of Henry Ford himself, the tunnels were a sand mine for the plant’s glass factory. The tunnels grew from 1926 to 1959, turning sandstone into windshields for thousands of cars.

that ANSI Z97.1 1975 bug only states the Safety Glazing Material Marking those units comply to
prolly has nothing to do with the date of installation but does assure they’re '75 or after
