This is so rare I don’t routinely check for this, but I had my thermal camera out checking the bathroom wall heater when the toilet was glowing bright yellow. I checked the other two bathrooms and they were hot. In the past I caught one or two hot toilets by accidently touching the tank while checking the water valve or using my moisture meter checking for a leaky wax seal.
Hey Randy, were the tanks insulated or not?
No, just standard toilets
Maybe like me, in one of my bathrooms, I installed a valve to keep the temp in my tank near or above indoor ambient to keep the tank from sweating.
I’ve seen that the melt wax ring and cause damage. I check for it everyday, wondering “is today gonna be the day I finally find one”?
A lot cheaper to install an insulated tank that to pay for hot water. I installed an insulated toilet tank 25 years ago. No problems ever since.
Unless one is “blessed” with an 11" offset toilet instead of the normal 12" offset toilet.
What does the offset have to do with the sweating? Am I missing something here? And never heard of an 11" rough-in.
The 11" rough-in/offset toilets are relatively rare and don’t come in insulated tank versions much, if at all…except handicap high toilets, that I have found.
Hence, my need to put a mixing valve in the lines to make the water near or slightly above ambient.
I’ve found one in 20 years. We don’t have too much sweating problems here as our normal humidity is between 20 and 30%.
