Hello everyone, New here from Soutwestern Ohio. I’m looking to do a slow transitional career change until I’m ready to go full time on my own. I’m currently researching training. Does anyone have any recommendations for real world training experiences? I know that interNACHI has free training with paid membership, but then you’re on the hook for the additional real world experience. Here are the only one’s currently licensed by the state.
HomeSpection is $2995 and you get the real world experience
Hondros is $2499-$2999 and you get the real world experience
InspectionGo is $1995 and you’re still on the hook for the real world experience
PDH is $1895 and you get the real world experience
PABI-No information I could find anywhere online
ASHI-No classes in Ohio but $2100-$3195
InterNACHI-$499 and you’re still on the hook for the real world experience
AHIT is $695 for the online course. You have to register to find out about local classes, so no clue on that cost or if the real world experience component is included or not.
So obviously interNACHI is the cheapest overall, but then I have to figure out how to get the peer review or 10 concurrent inspections. I’m leaning towards PDH, but that takes a good chunk of the budget away for a side hustle while I still work a regular job and plan towards going full time with my own inspection business.
Real World Experience…
InterNACHI has a mentoring program.
As for changing carriers, its done all over the world on a daily bases.
As for, on the hook for other fees???
Welcome to the real world of educating and running a business afterwards. If you expect everything to be free or cheep, and run a business like that, you are destine to fail from the start.

Bob,
Thanks for the welcome. However, I think you misread my post. I never said anything about being on the hook for any fees, only being on the hook to find my own way to complete the real world portion to satisfy licensing requirements for interNachi and a couple of the other cheaper options. I realize there are many fees associated with starting your own HI business such as insurance, licensing, professional organizations and such.
I checked the mentoring piece out here and it lists one person in Northern Ohio. I realize many probably aren’t interested in helping because they might be seen as helping out the competition. That’s why I’m leaning towards one of the training options that includes the other pieces required for licensing. Yes they may be more in the long run, but it makes it pretty simple and straight forward.
ted, I just read you pdf, nice work. Its great you made this to help out the new guys.
I love the part about the tools and equipment stating all the stuff to get, Plus whatever Ben Gromicko says.
