Go to www.hud.gov/offices/reac/products/prodpass.cfm for info on the HUD program. It requires traing in DC. I haven’t done it so don’t know anymore, but hope this helps.

I did a brief stint with the Local Housing Authority back in the early 90's as A "Modernization Inspector". Program funding for contractors was through the Chicago Office. Payouts back then were very slow (90-120 days typical, sometimes more) and no one seemed to care. Depending on your cash flow needs, this may not be an issue, but I would strongly recommend you try to locate some inspectors involved in the program to see what their experiences have been in your area.
