I find many flashing failures where the plumbing vents and the furnace combustion air vents penetrate the roof. They are mainly Oatey brand and the rubber “boot” part begins to tear in as little as 3-4 years, creating a leak. Many attempt a repair with caulking but of course it is only a Band-Aid as the tear will grow.
Does anyone know of a product or procedure to repair without removing shingles and replacing the entire flashing unit?

Blaine, Oatey makes a rain collar that looks about right but I’m concerned that it might have only the 4 year life of the original ( same rubber composition).
Jay, roof cement would be an improvement over caulking if it does not contain petroleum products. I fear a coating of any kind would only be temporary because the boot beneath will continue to tear and take the coating along with it.

If there is still concern with the boot tearing, then install a lead collar, then, apply the roof cement. Be sure to nail the lead flashing before applying the cement.

When using the roof cement , use a cotton membrane with it. These boots are a nice way to make a $150 for a leak repair with under $2 worth of material. Lead stacks are the way to go
