Vinyl Siding thin as paper

Has anyone ever seen this before? This was vinyl siding on southern exposure of a garage. The siding was paper thin.

Were the other walls of siding the same?

No, I havenever seen that, before. :flushed:

Just southern wall

Cheap vinyl (they’re not all created equally) siding has “baked” and shrunk in the sun.

It could be that particular type of siding is susceptible to the sun’s damage.

It is a defect then, IMHO.

Looks like it was doing its job until you poked your finger through it! Haha, J/K. What a mess. NO, I have not seen this before…cool find.

That’s a first for me. Not even sure how you could install a product like that without damaging it, lol.

It looks like 1970s vinyl siding, that would make it around 50 years old.

Looks like 1970’s wall paper

 Shhh

As I approached the garage, I honestly thought I was seeing a liquid vinyl paint that didn’t adhere to aluminum siding (since the house was aluminum). I’ve seen reflective heat damage and the obvious BBQ grill damage on vinyl siding before, but nothing like this.

I suspect an inferior early generation siding with polymers that degraded in the sunlight.
