Viscous type substance "leaking" from meter

For my edification; does anyone know what this substance is? The taste and smell was pretty bland

SC insulation melting? No clue…

Looks like someone used a little too much flex-seal. :rowing_man:

Looks like you could have open up the box and took a look?

Could it be some type of insect secretion?

If there is a hot substance like black tar leaking in or around the electrical meter, and it has a strange smell, call the utility provider right away. Even if the leaking substance is cold and has no smell, still call the utility provider and report it. This can be an issue where the insulation has melted from overheated wires.

Sounds like good advice.

No, it was the meter can unfortunately.

Wow, you did way, way more than I do with tasting it. :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes: I’m not sure whether I admire that or not, particularly since you had the smell before the taste. If we ever create an award for going way beyond the SoP for an inspection, I will nominate you.

My guess would be tar sealant improperly used and now leaking out, but I don’t think I’ve encountered any smelling all that bad.
