Water Softner Discharge

Would appreciate knowing if other inspectors call out discharges directly into floor drains? Technically, there could be cross-contamination if the

softener does not have a check-valve to prevent reverse flow!

I've never seen a setup when the discharge is mounted above the floor drain. Most are wedged into the grill to secure the discharge will flow directly into the floor drain. Comments please! ![icon_smile.gif](upload://b6iczyK1ETUUqRUc4PAkX83GF2O.gif)

Needs to have an air gap.

You could cut the drain line which is wedged in the floor drain, install an air gap where you cut it, and now you have smooth flow into the floor drain AND an air gap.
