A discussion related to our SOP brought up the fact that, maybe, not everyone is familiar with the Watts 210 valve and its function.

These are quite common in CA and are allowed by the UPC to be installed as a stand-alone safety device for water heaters in lieu of a TPR valve.

The IRC requires that a pressure relief valve (PR not TPR) be used in combination with the Watts 210.

These devices shut off the fuel supply to the water heater if the water temperature reaches 210 degrees.
