Hope this finds you all well. I had a question for all of you that perform WDO inspections. What listening device do you use (if any) to listen in the wall? Your comments would be greatly appreciated!

The major WDO in Maryland is subterranean termites. Listen till your blue in the face you won’t hear them!

Stethoscope - can hear many invasive insects species - not all, but many. Can also get “amplified” units.

Years ago, the termite guy I use found wood damage and mud below a window sill in the living room of the house we were inspecting. He asked if I had my combustible gas detector with me so I went to the truck and got it. Sure enough, I got a strong signal from the methane gas they emit.

They are one of the few arthropods that emit considerable methane gas.
Probably around 20 million tons annually.

Thank you all! This has been quite helpful, we don’t see much of this stuff in the PNW but it is good to be prepared.
