I agree, David, $569 is hardly a drop in the bucket, and $39.95 for monthly hosting is unheard of these days in any other industry but real estate. A web site can be an excellent marketing tool for independent business owners, when it’s priced right and done right.
As a matter of fact, I met with Nick Gromicko a few weeks ago, who expressed his concerns regarding the high price of home inspection web sites. I did a little research and found that this industry was overrun by web designers who were charging a premium for template based web sites, and that the cost of custom web design was even higher.
This is why we came up with the $199 price point for NACHI member web sites from RealtySites.info

. On top of this, we charge only $5.25 a month in hosting.
We also went with a template based system with an emphasis on features that we thought would be important to our customers, like a free content manager (so you can update your web site yourself), a free links manager (so you can increase your traffic through reciprocal linking), a document upload feature (so you can deliver your reports to your clients electronically), and more. Our sites are optimized to load quickly and to be easy for the search engines to find and index.
Before we launched the web site last week, I researched the major providers in this field, and put all of their pricing and features side by side. I looked not only at the upfront costs of building the site, but also at the cost of maintaining a web site with that provider over a three year period. I'd invite you to check this out and let me know what you think of it. I hope that it meets your needs.
