Hello. I use HomeGauge but purchased an HP/Compaq tc1100 tablet instead of the ACER tablet. I thought the ACER screen was too dim even in overcast conditions. When deciding on what to buy, consider if you will actually be using the tablet as it was intended. I decided not to carry my big investment around with me in order to reduce the possibility of dropping it or damaging it while out in the elements. I have a ruggedized protective case for it, but it was a hassle to take in and out. To use the tablet as a tablet, you really need to have a ton of “auto-comments” which takes hundreds of inspections to generate. As for the software, you can’t beat HomeGauge’s customizeable reporting software and customer support.

I use the Acer with Homegauge software, both are great. The screen is a little dim when using it in the car in bright sunny weather, but otherwise fine. I don’t use it outside, only in the car and inside the house. Great software!!

Back in the day when 3 Computer manufacturers ruled the computer industry, it was not hard to choose and purchase a machine that you thought will fulfill your needs.
Basically if you knew something about computers, you bought HP instead of Compaq, and if you wanted to spend money on ?a Computer for life? you bought Sony or IBM.
Fairly quickly you learned that Sony or IBM does not offer a lot of extra power (even though you paid double the price of ?low end? computer).
IT?S THE SAME TODAY!
Only today the former underdogs in the industry have become expensive by implementing old rules:
Target selected markets
Spend more on advertising
Make believe
Increase price
Most of this doesn?t apply to ?new comers? such as are small moms and pops computer stores, that will offer you more computer for less money.
How can Gateway offer a PC for $499, when a PC with same characteristics at HP costs over $1100? Simple. Gateway computers are using ?generic? parts, found in any aforementioned ?moms and pops? shops; therefore Gateway did not hire engineers to design an architecture that would require ?special? parts available ONLY from the manufacturer of the PC. Same rule applies to all small PS manufactures. Therefore purchasing top of the line PC or a low-end doesn?t make big difference, as long as computer characteristics meet you needs and wants (Amount of RAM Processor size, Video and Audio cards, etc.).

You might want to checkout Avaratech. They offer a fully featured convertable tablet. I saw it at CompUSA for around $999. It was loaded and seemed to be ideal for this type of business. I didn’t ask to take it outside and look at the screen in the daytime, but maybe I will on my next trip back.

I use an ACER T102 tablet PC and HomeGauge–an excellent combination. I also use the gold service where I can deliver the report via email–another great thing. They have a good package where you can have the gold service and a website hosted for a great price. The Gold service also stores all your reports on the server at HomeGauge, which is backed up regularly. This allows clients access to their report at a later date should they have a question. It also allows an agent to view any reports you have completed for clients.

Acer has a nice small tablet - the C110-C113 series. However, they just announced they’re dropping them from their line - they’ve stopped manufacturing them at this time. So - if you want one get it now.

Has any one tried the Panasonic toughbook CF-18? It is a convertible tablet that is fully ruggedized and has an outdoor viewable screen. I am researching now - but it is expensive- $3500+ retail. If any one is using one- please give me some feedback.
