What next for Florida inspector

I can’t master home inspections if I am not getting any.

19 inspections total and I think 5 or 6 were home inspections. Doing a lot more 4 point and wind hits than anything. Which I am fine with if I could get 3 a day or so of each.

Or someone trying to grow their business and have success…
So in your view anyone trying to get more business is here because they thought it would be fast easy money? I left a 13yr career to work for myself and start this. I am coming up on a year of no income for myself. It all goes into this business to help it succeed so you really could not be more wrong with your lazy assumption.

…Which could be working against you. Perhaps reBranding should be a consideration…

…including rethinking your fee schedule… or at least reformatting your website!..

Wind mits and 4-points start at $100… do you think I’m offering home inspections for $100??? LOL

You are right, I should immediately be and look just like an inspector who has been doing this and is already established. I’m sure they all have what they have now the day they started. Website, clientele, marketing, etc.

A bit more like this…

I’m pretty much in the same boat as you. The difference for me is that I already had a service business before I did the home inspections. I’m in central Florida.

I passed my license in 2023 and while I’ve done more inspections than you, it’s not all that much more. The difference is I have a couple realtors that use me for inspections.

They also use me for repairs when they are the listing agent and get an inspection report from someone else

I also do home watch for snow birds. It’s easy money really but you need to have the pump primed while they are here. You stop by a few times a month, make sure there’s no mold and the AC is working. I have had a few issues and you just call in one of the local services that you know and trust.

Today I changed a lightbulb for a lady down the street because she can’t get on a ladder. $20, 6 minutes all in. They know my minimum, shrug.

I do technology installs as well. Need me to get your xfinity going? No problem, I’m cheaper than Geek Squad and more qualified.

I also offer snow bird monitoring packages. Set up some blink cameras, a Myq remote garage door opener, a Nest doorbell and if possible an Ecobee or Honeywell wifi thermostat. Carrier systems are a no-go without a lot of work, but everything else is good.

Essentially I do a ton of Home Services. Yes, I would prefer to just do inspections, but until that grows, I do whatever people need and I’m constantly busy.

The home inspection profession requires highly trained technical people who are able to function as a home inspector under ever changing conditions, and if you are working for someone as an employee that’s all you really need to know… On the other hand the home inspection business is basically a people business which requires an entirely different skillset, one which is far more difficult to develop from classroom study alone. That is why most of the home inspectors I know came out of the trades, or had been in business prior to entering the profession.

If I saw “Inspections starting at $100” on a website… I’d immediately find another inspector.

Wow, I have not done a 4 Pt or Wind Mit for 100.00 in 10 years. I had someone stop me at Sam’s at the fuel pump and he wanted to know what we charged for a 4 Pt. I told him 150.00 for Standard and 225 for Citizens. He laughed and said he could get it for under 100.00. That afternoon he scheduled with my office for a Citizens 4 Pt. Apparently, I was not the most expensive. I did a Google search and there is one company offering 4 Pts at 125.00, but most are 175.00. There are some at 200.00, and one at 250.00. I saw one for Pinellas that was $95. It seems like I am leaving money on the table because, we are fully booked with mostly 4 Pts and Wind Mits for ten days out.
Yesterday, I showed up at the guy’s house, and he recognized me. He did not say anything about the price and had the check ready when I arrived.
