Did an inspection on a modular home, new construction, and noticed an extended base flashing at the back of the house. It extends out about 2-inches. I haven’t been ablr to find much regarding the width of this flashing and was wondering if anyone else has seen anything like this.
This flashing doesn’t appear to bend up and would allow water to be wicked into trim, siding, sheathing and framing.
Example of a better flashing job:
It’s too wide. It’s flexible enough to bend it down to prevent the flashing from redirecting the water back under the trim.
Hey Larry, I was thinking the same thing initially, however, it’s possible they cut it this way on the end to fit around the corner. Without pulling off the siding (board & batten) I’m not sure.
Hey Randy, I agree. I think my biggest concern is the sharp edges on the corners being a safety hazard.
A mirror could help there with maybe seeing a bend or not. Plus, you should see the bottom edge of the sheathing.:
Yeah, I was hoping I’d see something, but when viewing under the flashing there was nothing but concrete slab.
Yes, it is hard to tell without being there.
Personally, I would still comment this as well as your sharp edges on the corners safety concern.
Will do. Thanks for the insight!
