The installer did not or could not remove the corner molding before installing the flooring and left a quarter inch gap. Do you or how do you write this up?

I don't write it up. It 's a minor cosmetic item that is visible to anyone walking though the house.

Yep, minor. Cosmetic .

Write it up like this,

"wood floor installer forgot to bring his painters caulk with him to finish up job, recommend sealing with caulking material so that guests don't laugh at the poor finish job that the installer did. On the up-side the installer has left an expansion gap, good job"

A professional carpenter could have shaped the shoe molding

to fit precisely around the corner. This would not be acceptable.

But I agree it is only cosmetic. ![icon_smile.gif](upload://b6iczyK1ETUUqRUc4PAkX83GF2O.gif)

Cosmetic indeed… Note: a professional floor installer would have made an undercut in molding to allow for expansion gap and to finish trim flooring. Poor workmanship.

I would not report this but just give a verbal note to my client, this type of comment shows my expertise in all stages of construction and promotes word of mouth referrals.

all though it is cosmetic I do agree that the carpenter could have done a better job of covering the edges with trim, keep in mind that this type of flooring requires a gap of at least a quarter inch for expansion and contraction it function properly.

This all depends on what exactly the previous homeowner contracted. Maybe trim was not part of the contract.

Maybe it was installed by the homeowner icon_wink.gif

I’m sure the homeowner does not consider that finished. (Jeff’s Photo)

He probably installed it himself, or had help. I would suspect the homeowner at the time had someone else coming to do the trim at later date. Be it another friend/relative, or a hired gun. Any “dummy” can install those floors. Doing a good job on the moulding takes a little more expertise. (And better tools)
