First, what is the purpose of damaging the insulation further? From your picture, you can see everything from your position.
I would take before picture of the attic insulation before proceeding, if I had to. I would only walk in the obvious footprints that were already there.
I personally would not go any further based on the picture you have provided.

I don’t inspect attics in Florida after 11:00 AM in the summer or warmer times of the year. My third Wind Mitigation yesterday at 11:00 AM the attic was already 145 degrees. It was a new roof with black shingles.
This is a gable roof and if you are at the scuttle hole the eaves should be close enough to see if the soffits are covered with insulation or if baffles are installed.
Walk thru that insulation? NO WAY on this good green earth! It would be impossible to find the specific mouse / rat / squirrel / bat or other creature that bit you so it could be analyzed for presence of rabies. Guess who will be getting a series of rabies shots?
I have a Ferret cam and an extendable pole for these situations.
