Hi. Guys.
Does anyone here use XL PLATINUM computer software to do their reports on. I was looking at this program but need some more feed back from the field before I purchase. Its by Best Inspectors Network.
THANKS.
Looked at it recently- didn’t like it
Got 3D instead
Cheers
Every year as part of my “end of season business tune up” I take a look at other software just in case I need to change. Looked at it. Staying with 3-D.
@gwells Any comments for 2026 and all the recent queries regarding Report Software?
The inspection report part of the home inspection software industry barely exists anymore. It has been swallowed up by companies that produce software in which the home inspection report is only one part and gets very little attention.
They are more focused on things like sending emails, scheduling, and other menial tasks rather than doing anything new, different or special with the actual report writing.
Most of the companies now are trying to find ways to capitalize on and generate residual revenue for themselves from the inspector’s work.
An early example was the company that was merged with HomeGauge when they both were bought by the same company. I think it was called Home Hub Zone. They were telling inspectors that their software was free. It was free in that inspectors didn’t trade cash to use it. Instead they traded client data. In 34 years, we have never sold any customer data and we never will. We have never had access to inspector client data so there is absolutely zero risk to inspectors ever having their client data harvested or sold.
I have continued to focus on report writing. We offered a broad range of services for a few years, and we still offer some ancillary services, but the main focus is on continuously improving our report writing.
As a result, we have software in a class of its own when it comes to customization and report writing efficiency.
One of the biggest changes in actual report writing in recent years in the growing number of photos in an inspection report. With my three most popular home inspection reports, an inspector can insert anywhere from one or two photos to hundreds in mere seconds.
For example, let’s say that the inspector took 30 photos of a roof (which is common these days). The inspector can choose an entire block of photos (click on the first photo, hold down the shift key, and click on the last photo, and the town photos and every photo in between will be selected). Then, click on one of the insertion buttons to put 2, 3, or 4 photos on a row, either with or without captions. That’s literally only three mouse clicks and less than five seconds to insert 30 photos.
That’s the kind of stuff we work on while the other guys try to compete with Outlook, Mail-chimp, and PayPal.
By the way, we still offer website hosting through our Red Hot Domains and Website hosting. Most of our hosting plans have a comprehensive assortment of free add-ons that will do most of the things that inspectors are paying $100 a month or more for.
Oh yea. One more thing. We don’t do subscriptions. You buy the software and it’s yours to use forever. Most of my customers go many years between upgrades.
