You’re not the first inspection company and the homeowners upset with you. Now what?

Absolutely, which begins with stopping the kowtowing (Google it!) to agents for work!
This never works positively for anyone in the long term.
If you’re not getting jobs, there’s a reason, and it’s likely directly related to something you’re doing or not doing. Find out what that is and fix it!

I understand that response and have thought it many times, but my approach is more in line with Bert’s. I am slow to denigrate my fellow inspectors. I’ve had all kinds of contractors, agents, and an occasional HI try to throw me under the bus, so I try not to do it to others.

Guess we’ll never know!
Another fly-by that wasted all our time

2nd one in the last few days accusing inspectors of missing stuff but not sticking around to answer follow up questions.

And if you dig deeper you’ll find a few very negative reviews about Richard. Similar to the complaints he has about the previous inspectors.

Who said anything about digging deeper. The only reason I looked for his website was to see what area in Florida he was from. I was only going mention it because his InterNACHI link to his website is broken.

Then you would discover the business is not new, or even close.

I think he is working on a new website

Great point. Conflict resolution often begins with seeking to understand all sides of the situation. Since it was known the home had been inspected 5 times, disarming this seller would have been fairly simple in my opinion.

One thing I try to avoid is inserting myself into the transaction. An emotional seller who is frustrated can effect the transaction.

Recently while leaving a home after the inspection I crossed paths with the homeowner. They asked “How did it go?” and I said “You have a well kept home and it was a pleasure to inspect”. Which was true, the home was neat as a pin and everything was made accessible. Of course, the seller used my statement as leverage when negotiating for repairs. Next time, my answer will be “No comment. Thank you for inviting me to inspect your home”

Richard,

It would be nice to have more detail. Over what period of time was the home inspected 5 times. A home inspection is just a snapshot in time. The home is still being live in. A stove that works today could break tomorrow.

What items did you find that the others did not? Was it something that was obvious and clearly there during the other inspections? Were the other inspections full state inspections or perhaps just a Four-point inspection?
