You think gasoline is expensive now? Just wait.

Simple answer-Government.

Roy, you don’t know your tax rate?

MRIs per million population

CAT Scanners per million population

I can go to Buffalo and have my CAT and MRI done much sooner than the wait time up here in Canada. Of course I would have to pay out of my own pocket, but when you have to wait several months up here for some of these scan syou can see the dilema.

I believe we should have public and private health care. Those that can afford private medical care should be able to do so and those citizens who cannot afford private medical care will still be looked after by the public system.

That is correct . Do you find this important if so why?

Ken, I think Roy is retired so he may not know what the average full time tax rate may be.

PS, how’s that beanstalk coming along???

Just kidding

Raymond, in the U.S. no one can be refused medical care if they show up at a hospital.

NO I have found for me it has been better to have a great Chartered accountant look after my Books and do My taxes for over 40 years.
I spend my time else where.

But Michael,

They will treat you and then present you with a big fat bill. BTW not all test, surgeries, drugs are covered by the public health care system fiw.

Which they often don’t pay.
So in effect the paying customers subsidize those who don’t pay through much higher premiums.

You know what Roy, same with me. If someone asked me the same question I don’t think I could answer it either. I have had a book keeper and CPA for years.

Sorry about the retired thing, I know you have had more than one career.

Yes I saw what happened to ANDY had a fair job made reasonable money and was well taken care of , at 22 he had a bill for $38,000;00, and in debt for the rest of his life or close to it.

And in a free market that is the risk one takes in choosing not to have helath insurance.

That is much less than many college educations and certainly less than any home.

It’s important to me to know my tax rate, because then I can determine if I’m getting a good return on my money. For example if Hillary care kicks in but it raises my tax rate by 25%, I would be much better off paying for my own health insurance. Likewise if you’re paying a 40% tax rate instead of a 15% rate, the socialized medicine doesn’t turn out to be as good a deal as you thought. That’s why I was asking.

Are there any Canadian members out there that happen to know what the tax rate is?

We are probably taxed in the vicinity of 50-54% of our income through various taxes. Its not usually to late June or July until Canadians are free from paying taxes, we call it tax freedom day.

True, but the quality of the health care is different if you have insurance and can afford to pay. and those most likely to show up at a hospital are already very sick,Also here in Chicago we have all the contractors that pay cash sending injured workers to th ER to pick up the tab. We end up paying for it one way or the other in higher cost for those that can afford to pay for health care.

Mark, if you own a business and are self employed then your uninsured medical expenses are tax deductible, so taking that into consideration, how does that impact your bottom line?

I still wonder how the Canadian Tax rate effects you in the USA.
Like MY CA pays me to do an home Inspection for his kids I pay him for My taxes.
Same as I pay the eye specialist to tell me what kind of glasses I need .

And that is one of the absurdities of our nation’s health care system. We pick up the tab for such folks in addition to funding such functions unrelated to the actual health services rendered such as the insurance company’s marketing expenditures, excessive administation, insurance industry lobbying efforts that are not in our interest, salesman commissions and shareholder profits. Gotta appreciate the corporate scam that our health care financing system is!
