I am posting this for Bill Mullen.

Bill Mullen on his own is doing a survey.
He is paying for it and it has nothing to do with any organization.

I would appreciate any Canadians reading this to please give some serious thoughts to filling this out .
This could be a big advantage to us all on whether we should or should not carry insurance.
Bill Has told me he will give me a copy when it is finished so all can read it .
I would appreciate my American friends to not fill this in as it could confuse the results .
You will be able to see what the out come is and it might just give all members something to think about .
I would like to thank Bill M for doing this and giving all Canadian Home Inspectors a chance to fill this in
You do not have to be a member of Any organization to participate

I was asked to make the post so I did what my conscience said was the right thing to do .
It would be a great world if we all did what they know is correct.

I just did the survey. We have to carry E&O insurance because we are a part of a franchise, and I think it is a good thing.

I think it is strange that it so difficult for Canadian inspectors to get E&O in Canada (we use FREA) considering that Canadians are generally less litigious than Americans.

It will be interesting to see the results of the quiz.

I feel E&O should be a personal decision.
I also feel that it is unfortunate that so many of the franchises and associations are so dictatorial.
It might be a good thing if the had a listening committee to hear what the members want or need.
This group would not necessary make decisions but could receive the information and pass it on to the correct parties.
They could also make sure the members received a proper answer.
To many questions just never get replied too.

Roy you raised some good points. Although some soon forget the issues of privacy and confidentiality as part of the operation mandate.

As to the issue of why many loose their insurance coverage, or why it is not readily available. Most of those questions were answered in the CMHC insurance study paper done over a year ago. Some include lack of education, poor reporting, poor report writing skills, not following the SOP, lack of contracts, timing of signed contract and making reports too realtor friendly. On the other side includes issues such as lack of experience, and lack of discipline of those misusing insurance.

Too bad the CMHC report does not give information that we can use .
It talks about claims , that is different in settled claims .
It also gives no information on the average size of claims .
It also does not give information on the largest claim .
Did any of the settled claims go to court or where the settled out of court.

Have you order the full report? It is about 68 pages in length. It does not go into confidential information for obvious reasons. But it does point out most common areas for lawsuits, a few Canadian legal case studies, makes recommendations on risk management, etc.
