What do you girls think about this one? Too close? What is the installation protocol from the EPA? This is a PA installation so the DEP would handle this.

Definitely too close.

I do not recall exactly what the EPA states off the top of my head ? but I remember all the diagrams in training showed the stack exiting the roof like a plumbing vent, and those mounted along the exterior of the house went above the eave/roofline.
The main part from the EPA was that it's exit point should be away from doors, windows, or other openings that could allow radon to re-enter the home.

Is the soffit vented on that home?

EPA protocol says at least 10’ above ground, min. 2’ higher than any opening within 10’, and above the highest eave.

Gerry, not only do I have a copy of the IRC 2000 and the new 2003, but I am also certified through the ICC and the state of PA as a Residential Building Inspector for the IRC. so there…

I often post things not for me but for others to learn from. I already know the answer. I thought this would be a good topic to learn from rather than the general crap bitching and moaning and conflicts on the board.

Seeya old chap

Several of us sometimes post for other’s benefit as we already know the answer.

Perhaps it would cut the carping if we identified what we were doing when we did it.

There is no carping between Gerry and I, we know each other and this is just fun banter.

This is from the Pa. Radon Mitigation Standards:

14.2.8 To prevent reentrainment of radon, the point of discharge from vents of fan powered soil depressurization and block wall depressurization systems shall meet all of the following requirements: (1) be above the eave of the roof, (2) be 1 0 feet or more above ground level, (3) be10 feet or more from any window, door, or other opening into conditioned spaces of the structure that is less than 2 feet below the exhaust point, and (4) be 1 0 feet or more from any opening into an adjacent building. The total required distance (10 feet) from the point of discharge to openings in the structure may be measured either directly between the 2 points or be the sum of measurements made around intervening solid obstacles.

Nos. (1) and (3) tells me this guy will be back out there correcting the problem!
