I uploaded one of my home inspection reports, and with one click, Google NotebookLM read the report and produced this video for my client to watch and learn how to read the report.

Here is where if find AI should not be used what so ever.
Your physical being, your presents, your personality and ability to decipher said reported concerns in the home inspection report you built from scratch should come into play. A one on one professional relationship with your client, to me, is most important. By allowing the invisible AI Houdini to explain the report to a CLIENT is repulsive and arrogant.

I agree. AI should not interpret our reports for our clients. AI is good for many other things, not that.
I decided to have Grok critique a report i did on my own home.
I discovered a couple things.
First, even though I could view a nice clean PDF, grok was claiming there were a lot of spurious characters peppered through through the PDF. After trying to save it back to an older format, I gave up and sent it the HTML link.
The next thing I found was that Grok was very complimentary of the report. I ultimately built it of your template Ben, so he was praising the format and such. I’ve heavily modified it as far as the narratives and language but the structure is mostly the same.
He found a couple spelling errors, a couple grammar errors and some incomplete sentences but in general found it readable and comprehensive.
For some reason he mentioned some missing pictures that indeed are there, so I’m unclear where that problem is, but it’s him, not me.
Finally, I don’t think an AI should be interpreting our reports, but I do think there is a role here. That would be expanding and clarifying things that we know intuitively(i.e. things we Grok as HIs), that the customers have zero knowledge of.
PS, if you don’t know what ‘to Grok’ something means, read Heinlein’s, “A Stranger in a Strange Land’“.
Really interesting. It made some interpretations and statements that I would not make. But still, it’s the kind of dialogue that many inspectors could have with clients or at least first-time home buyers. And also, it is a demonstration of the potential of AI in our biz.
well,….I agree, it shouldn’t interpret any of the details but this vid was more like an intro for peeps who have never seen a Home Inspection report.
