My first try at the pictures. Hope this works. There were about 10 to 12 of these in a row and no more around the foundation. Any help would be appreciated.

Thx,

Ed

Ed:

It appears to be fiberboard. A cement based siding system. Hardie Panel is a manufacturer used a lot in Florida. The board must have a minimum 1/2 plywood substrate.

Hope this helps. By the way JOIN NACHI.

Strange, but could it be insect treatment?

I too think he was referring to the plugs in the foundation.

Looks like insect treatment to me also.

Why would there be insect treatment for brick and Hardi-board?

If your referring to the drilled and sealed holes in the foundation, they appear to be for insect control. ( Termites )

Probably for what's behind those.

icon_smile.gif Thanks guys, I should have been more specific about the question. I was referring to the plugs but the lap board did have me stumped. The siding has several places where moisture is causing it to swell and in the attic on the gables there was plywood sheathing behind it so I couldn’t read any labeling on the back side. I was thinking maybe masonite but thought I’d call it composite board just to be safe. The brick appears to be some kind of stucco on block so I called it decorative stucco. Any ideas? They put this stuff on the chimney for a fireplace insert and there was quite a bit of damage to the plywood sheathing inside and several cracks in the chimney and recent repair work on the chimney also. I’m thinking about recommending a contractor look at it because the structure may be weakened. As for the plugs, I also thought maybe termite treatment but I would have thought it would have gone all the way around the house. This is one of my first inspections and it seems to have lots of problems. I’ll try attaching some photos of the chimney and damaged siding.

That part of the house has been treated for termites in that part of the house. It should be about 10ft long. They drilled the bricks to treat behind them. That is a give away that the home owner had active tremites at one time in that part of the house. Wet wood, then tremites.
