I brought this up many months ago. It’s cool but the problem I saw is that many people don’t have Silverlight installed on their computers and, IMO, most people won’t have the patience. In my experience, people and agents want quick, easy access to their inspection reports. Again, it’s slick but the cons outweigh the pros.
I comprehend that this is a thread about using video. (Re: Anyone taken Video at home inspections? )
I comprehend that your post is about photos. (Photosynth creates an amazing new experience with nothing more than a bunch of photos.)
What did I miss?
I saw the video and IMO if it doesn’t given added value or explaination to the client, it’s not worth it. Slick technology, but too much time for too little real value.
I know you’re on the cutting edge, so have fun with it, Techno Bob.
Fine stick to that B&W screen on your TV Rick, but “honest” they sell them with color now.
Try it You might like it.
My report will be done, I’ll have the kids adjust the rabbit ears and we’ll watch B&W “I love Lucy”.
By the time the episode is over, you’ll have finished the 3-D depiction of one room of the 8 you have to do. Then you can write your report.
You can catch some good informercials at 3am on your super-size high-def dilithium crystal TV when you’re all done.
Hmm how many pics do you take at an Inspection.???
I suppose I could just stick with a checklist and number two pencil which would complete my report before you ever get those rabbit ears adjusted.
The old timers told me not to add pictures as they take to much time.
What would they say about making clients waste time watching a you tube video ???
I should think clicking on a picture that magnifys the closeup with a caption would be much faster.
Like I said…
If it adds value or clarification for the client, I’m all for it.
Show me how this does either and I’ll be “on-board”.
Remember, we have only 48 hours to get the report to the client, though. Perhaps the NY guys could use this as they have 5 days.
Ok let me ask you this…
Which part of this new tech do you think is time consuming as all you do is pluck a close up and caption.
You could use the same caption in your still picture report and nobody needs to watch in real time as they can quickly jump to any pertinent sections.
I would rather try this than shaky cameras and Don Knots voice overs.
Lets face it that none of us are Billy Mays or Bob Villa. lol
That’s really PUKE, dude!
I’m going to give it a try.
The time is really of no relevance, I’m just messin with ya.
It’s the lack of value to the client. Show me the value to the client.
You could get a CAD program and draw a 3-D representation of the house, with all the defects precisely pointed out, also. That would take time, but would it add value?
In my best Jerry McGuire voice…“SHOW ME THE VALUE!”
Tell ya what, Bob. We’ll revist this in six months (or a year). If it’s the hottest new thing (in HI), dinner is on me (Morton’s). If not, it’s on you.
I like my filet medium rare.
There’s a significant difference between actual and perceived value.
My client might perceive that something that I do or provide is of tremendous value to them, and may think differently. Who cares? My client.
If using technology in your business is perceived by your client has having tremendous value, and they make their decision to hire you based upon their perceptions, then go for it.
EQUATION: If the perceived value of the “whatever” is greater than the actual cost of using “whatever” in your business, it’s a no-brainer.
Not getting off track… but an analogy would be a home maintenance book… the perceived value could be 10 times the actual cost of the book.
by the way… Grow Your Business with Custom Home Maintenance Books - InterNACHI® (couldn’t help myself)
and, of course, cost can be time as well as dollars.
So, how is this technology valuable (actually or perceived) to the client?
I see the value in software, pics, videos and even home maintenance books.(on sale 'til Friday for $1.70!)
I simply don’t see it in this.
Ww are just now looking into this dud opps dude hahaha
Listen in turn on tune out and drop in after we give it a look as I am sharing something new here and you are PO POing it in advance.
This is not like you so what side of the bed you wake up on guy???
Give us Rick back.
I just went outside and did a few shots so hold your hores (or the horseless)
You got time to waste uploading You Tube but refuse to open your eyes. OY!
You should lay off the tequila… your speach is getting slurred :p:twisted:
what the heck are you typing???
Must be those shots he’s been doing. ;-):p:mrgreen:
Here check out this synth and click on the thumbs which have captions for each shot.
Sorry I am getting used to this new keybird.

I just ran out and took 25 quick shots with captions ,but I still need to figure out why they are not showing.
Still it took about 15 seconds a piece to upload large file size pics.
I imagine I could have reduced them to speed it up.
Do you think clients and agents really want to install a program, which btw isn’t capable of installing using Chrome, just to view some pics? That combined with it being quite slow (I have a 10mb dsl line and 3gigs of ram and it’s loading pretty slow on my pc) makes me think there’s just too much of a possibility of a high level of frustration for trying to view a simple report.
With some more polish and ease of use, this could be very interesting to incorporate but IMO it’s not quite there.
