Just a little more to add to the fixture in the closet thing.
The most current home I built was just called on this issue. It seems even city codes inspectors could not agree.
The fixtures I put in closets are can fixtures. My rough mechanical inspection report stated that at finish these fixtures needed to be covered with a lense because of the potential fire hazzard of open fixtures because of things on shelves coming into contact with said fixture.Easy enough fix.
My final inspection brought a different codes inspector who said that in addition to the cover the fixture must also be 6" away from an imaginary verticle plane of the nose of a closet shelf.
So if you have shelves in any closet regardless of what you call that closet my thinking is ,based upon how code reads, the covered fixture/6" rule would apply.
I do recall reading in 2003 IRC that a florescent bulb is o.k. It’s a vague recollection so you might have to check me on that.
Oh and by the way it is a real pain to move a light fixture 2" from its existing location because no one is really sure what code is really saying.

Thanks Joe, I’m hoping someone here in wichita will invite you to teach a class. I’ve submitted your info to the Board of Realtors Office and the guy that handles classes and scheduling was on vacation last week. If you hear anything from him would you let me know?
Thanks again

My pleasure Russell:
Here's another item I would like to mention:
Space for Cove Lighting
Coves must have adequate space and are required to be located so that lamps and equipment can be properly installed and maintained.
I've found some strange types of installations in those spaces, including open wire used to supply fluorescent fixtures, no connectors, and even a small panel!
