Big breakers

I’ve never seen a 30-amp and a 50-amp single-pole breaker taking up two slots so that it appeared that both of them should be dual-pole breakers? Do these exist? There were a lot of homeowner electrical “improvements,” so an electrician is already being recommended.

Russ,

If it's taking up two slots, it's likely to be a two pole breaker. No picture?

A two pole breaker may have only one handle with an internal "handle tie."

Did it look like this?

In the GE style panel you can have 1/2" and 1" breakers in single pole or 1" or 2" breakers in 2 pole. I can get a picture later if someone wants to see them

Yes, Jeff. Thanks. I’d never seen that type of breaker before.

Any opinion about whether it is better, worse, or the same as the regular external tie?

Personally, I like it better because it can’t fall off or be taken off.

BTW, it is a two pole (240 volt) breaker.

Russel,

Square D is big around here on two pole breakers like Jeff P has shown. Two pole although on one handle on the exterior of the breaker.

I believe both their QO and the homeline series use the single handle with the two pole breakers.

Sqaure D has been making that style longer than I’ve been alive, and they have no history of problems.
