Can anyone figure out what's going on with this construction work next to the sump pump?

Hi everyone!

I recently inspected a 1980s home with a lot of basement renovations. There was a dug-up area next to the sump pump that puzzled me. There was moisture around this spot, but no visible pipes or clues about what was done. The nearby walls had new drywall, so I couldn’t see if there were any visible defects. Has anyone seen something like this or have any insight on this? The seller’s agent said there used to be a shelf there but it was taken out, which confused me even more.

Thanks!

Maybe a leak in the tile that they attempted to repair? Just a wild guess.

My guess is that the new drywall is covering the rest of the story.

My guess is that they installed a new sump pump bucket and they haven’t finished patching the concrete floor?

That’s my thought, too.

Is this the new one? Or, what is it?
