I did a WDI inspection today and found this. It looks like carpenter ant frass, however was not able to locate where they would be coming and going, and it was on the floor away from joists or any wood which is unusual. I was wondering if anyone had input.
Thanks
It looks like chewing tobacco from here.
It looks a little course for frass and also pretty dark. Photos don’t always tell the story though.
Haha. It does.
- what’s on the opposing side of the walls
- vacant home? perhaps they moved out & now that crap remains?
- previous water intrusion? there’s a little messed up paint in a few areas
- is that a closet?
It’s the outside roof of the porch, with tree branches overhanging
It is a vacant home
There wasn’t any signs of a water intrusion. The darker color of the frass is another reason I’m curious. Normally carpenter ant frass is of a lighter color
It is a closet
Thanks. So if there are no bathrooms, etc on the other side of the walls,
state what you observed (unknown chewing tobacco) & that the area tested dry (thermal cam/meter).
If there’s a state agricultural or science station around, take some there to get their opinion as a last resort. We have them down here to serve the public.
That makes sense. Thanks for the input! I appreciate your time.
That ain’t ant frass.
what did it taste like ?, coffee grounds???
Agreed… I don’t know what it is but it has no characteristics of carpenter ant frass.
