Can anyone help me out with a good cost effective CO sniffer. Currently I am using the Snifit and it sucks…I knew I should never bought that gadget from Dan.

Any help would be appreciated....hoping to keep the cost below $200.

Big Joe,

The one I use is manufactured by TIFF. It's a bit more than $200, though. Nice unit, with digital and audible readout (voice readout of ppm), internal pump, probe, and headset.

I think that audible readout would drive me NUTS!!

But thank you for the information.

Hi Joe,

I’ve also been looking at CO testers and as far as I can see your really down to either Bacharach or Tif. I’m suprised about your comments on the snifit product what don’t you like about it ?

Good information about the detectors.

How about good information on training on how to use them. I know there's lots of liability for those who are just walking around with them like the picture of the guy in the catalog.

I've chosen not to have or use a CO detector until I can get the training that is needed to go along with it.

Joe,

Having owned one I know it is very tempramental about going from cold to hot like right now, especially when you put it up against a hot flue pipe.

I checked out ebay for the monoxor II and I found a couple for a decent price. One question.....Do you have to use the probe attachment to take a reading with this thing? It is awful big compared to the Snifit.

Anyone,

Does anyone here have the UEI version of co sniffer? (model co70, I think) What do you think of it?

Carla,

I did a search on CO sniffers and while I have purchased products from Professionalequipment before they are one of the more expensive places to buy from. Ebay is a better choice if you are not in a hurry for the stuff.

Thanks for the advice.

I just purchased one from them and it arrived within 2 days. They may also be selling a tif 8850 for $135 but don’t quote me on that. I purchased one along with the 8500A for that price.

Happy biding

If anyone is interested in a very informative training seminar for CO testing and what tools are available for CO testing, I highly recommend NCI seminars. I just attended one recently with Jim Davis as the trainer and he was very informative. It was a very detailed 8 hour course on CO detection.

NCI puts out several types of courses and they travel throughout the US. They even market detection devices and the Bacharach for a first time buyers discount after attending their seminar.

See if they are coming to your area soon.![](upload://aJizSi1EuOt25dL2FR4AHt5AZ3G.gif)
