I would like to congratulate Bill Mullen for getting the Stephen Greenford Award.
Unfortunately, I think some how the membership numbers in CAHPI have been vastly inflated. I just went to all the CAHPI web sites and did a count on what I think are the voting membership and only got 690 members. Bill is a member of OAHI and they are celebrating their 10 anniversary since they got their Private Members Bill passed by the Ontario government ten years ago, at which point they had approximately 100 RHI's they now have just over 200 RHI's. This looks to me like they only allow about 10 new Inspectors a year to move up to the RHI's status.

I do agree there could be up to 5,000 inspectors in Canada, but a very large number feel that belonging to CAHPI is not for their benefit (I am one who has been there and moved on). It would be great if we had associations in Canada that did listen to the membership. We are fortunate to have NACHI where all members and non-members can ask questions and get true answers. At the speed NACHI is growing in Canada they will soon have more members then CAHPI . I am glad that NACHI does not have a closed-door policy or discriminate against home inspectors. As I recall it was not to long ago that Mr. Mullen was quoting the same numbers to the press. When questioned about it Mr. Mullen stated the reporter misquoted the numbers. I guess reporters only report on the facts as reported to them by reliable resources. So much for no nothing reporters. ![icon_smile.gif](upload://b6iczyK1ETUUqRUc4PAkX83GF2O.gif)

Roy,

I'm with Claude on this one. When I started reading your post I thought WOW...Roy's got a civil compliment for Bill. But as I continued reading, I saw the same old stuff crop up again. Too bad. ![icon_rolleyes.gif](upload://iqxt7ABYC2TEBomNkCmZARIrQr6.gif) ![icon_rolleyes.gif](upload://iqxt7ABYC2TEBomNkCmZARIrQr6.gif)

Hmmmm. Let me see, someone who should know the true membership numbers has possibly over inflated those numbers grossly, either by design or by accident. Which is it?

Either way isn't it misleading or false advertising?

Why shoot the messenger? I recall these sort of numbers being quoted in the press. When taken up on the over exagerated numbers the blame was put on the reporter for over quoting numbers.

I think the remedy here is to either quote the correct number or not quote numbers at all. It is that easy and some seem to be reading more into the post than there needs to be.

Sorry Claude and Jim . Please tell me where my statements are wrong .

CAHPI is the group that is telling all they are the best ones to look after the inspection industry in Canada. I feel it is a very small group that is trying to take control of my and others future. I could care less about CAHPI but when it effects the future of the inspection industry in Canada then I really become concerned . This sort of information looks to me like CAHPI is saying yes we are are big and strong and shall should understand no one else has the backing or education we do and it must be CAHPI who gets the final say on who can be in the Inspection industry.

OAHI the Ontario Part of CAHPI is as far as I am concerned just a money making group for there own means. They send out considerable (We look forward to welcoming you as a member of the OAHI in due course! The cost to receive the complete OAHI Membership and Course INFORMATION PACKAGE is $26.75 ($25+gst). of these packages every year, This information could just as easy be posted on the web site but then OAHI would loose much money. When they have over 400 coming up through the ranks and only have about 10 complete it every year then some thing is defiantly wrong. Many of these people have listened to the presentation OAHI puts on telling them how they can make good money as a home inspector . Some have invested up to $10,000:00 to find out there is not the golden egg at the end and most finally give up after considerable expense.

I again ask please some one tell me where these statements of mine are wrong .

I am not afraid of licensing but am afraid of letting CAHPI control my and others future when they still do not tell the hopeful people who would like to become an inspector the truth .

The NACHI Forum at least allows much information to be given out that should be coming from CAHPI/OAHI.

If you are not afraid then why not allow the CANUK & the CAFE to be read by the hope full future Inspectors instead of keeping it for the secret society.

Roy Cooke sr Glad to be a NACHI member where freedom for all is practiced.

Roy are you suggesting that NACHI will do a better job right here in Canada? Are you suggesting that CAHPI was not best suited to at least try and take a leadership role for Canadian home inspectors?

Equally too, I feel a lot of the bad issues and tough answers have also not been addressed right here either. So shall we at least call it a draw and move on?

I am for unity not divisiveness, hope you feel the same way too. I actually feel that you will agree.

I have not said NACHI could do a better job but I sure do not want to see it down to the few who are trying to tell all they are the only ones and are the best .
I feel all Inspectors should have some input into the future of the inspection industry in Canada.
This NACHI site seems to be the only place that information is getting out to those inspectors . Unfortunately I also feel many Inspectors do not even this information .
I to am for unity but not one sided by a very few.
Sorry I will not call it a draw and let the future inspectors suffer.
This will not effect me as I will not be around when this comes to pass but I can not stand by and see this great industry controlled by a few who looking out for them selves and not all inspectors.
I still Have not had any of my questions answered by CAHPI/OAHI and do not expect they will ever think about the inspectors who do not follow the CAHPI /OAHI way .
Roy Cooke sr . NACHI where all are welcome to ask questions

You've GOT to be kidding!!! I suspect that the OAHI/CAHPI BOD have better things to do than waste their time answering the inane questions of a non-member who is a raving lunatic. You should just be thankful they don't get a restraining order against you. Dave

Very Intelligent conversation from one of the 5,000 ????????? members of CAHPI/OAH CAHPI-ONTARIO. Where exaggeration is normal
This is the type of person who is trying to gain control of the Home inspection industry in Canada.
He has to come to the NACHI forum to vent his anger!!!!!!

Where on earth are you getting this 5,000 member stuff from? Bill has stated the membership numbers on this very forum, and it wasn’t anywhere near 5,000. The only time I’ve ever heard the 5,000 figure bandied around was in regard to a reporter’s mis-statement in an article, and that’s ancient news. Even the link you posted to Bill’s site doesn’t go anywhere.

Get a grip, Roy, you don't know what you're talking about again. Stop trying to cause trouble needlessly.

And Dave says I do not know what I am talking about as per usual Dave gets a small amount of information and is an instant expert.

Strange how things change I guess you did not get a chance to see the whole letter Bill posted on his web site . I left off the picture
Roy Cooke sr . Bill himself says 5,000?

The Canadian Association of Home & Property Inspectors (CAHPI) has bestowed its highest honour on Bill Mullen, owner of Bluewater Home Inspection in Sarnia.

Mullen says he?s very proud to have been selected from among 5,000 association members as the recipient of this year?s Stephen Greenford Award. It is presented annually to recognize the winner?s dedication and contribution to the advancement and development of the home inspection profession in Canada. Mullen recently received the honour in Toronto during the association?s national conference and annual general meeting, at which he was elected to a third consecutive term as CAHPI?s president.

Mullen said it?s an achievement in itself to become president. The process requires winning elections at both provincial and national levels. CAHPI was established nearly 20 years ago and has worked towards a number of goals including raising public awareness of the home inspection profession and interacting with government on such concerns as improving Canada?s housing stock.

One thing people may not realize is that inspecting homes can be dangerous. The award Mullen received is named for a CAHPI member who suffered a fatal fall from a roof during an inspection. Mullen said inspectors can face many potential dangers in houses including unsafe electrical conditions and hazardous materials in places like attics and crawl spaces.

With a background in residential construction, Mullen launched Bluewater Home Inspection about 10 years ago. He has become increasingly busy over the years as more home buyers realize the value of having an inspection before closing a deal. He estimates 50 to 60 per cent of home sales now involve inspections

Lets review what Mr. Bottoms has stated:

Quote:
1. On Bill's site was a newspaper article posted verbatim. That article is now offline. When (if) he reposts it, I suspect the reporter's inaccurate figure will be corrected.

2. On your site you've included a statement about NACHI that's absolutely incorrect. You knew it was false when you placed it on your site. The question is, will you change it now that you've been caught redhanded?

Lets seperate fact from fiction....

1. Mr. Mullens was originally quoted in the Toronto Star I believe as having been quoted as stating CAHPI had 5,000 members. When Mr. Mullen was queried by many about the number the reply was that the reporter misquoted the numbers. Mr. Mullen readily new the number to be incorrect because he was and is in a position to know the exact numbers and is in a positon of trust. No one ever saw a statment issued by Mr. Mullen to correct the papers quoted number. Okay so having been made aware of the inaccuracy Mr. Mullen posts the inaccurate content on his website. More than several months have transpired just when is the opportune time to correct the problem. I would suggest the time to have corrected the inaccuracy would have been days after the misquote, not several months afterwards. I also would suspect the article never would have been corrected had Mr. Cooke not brought it to light.

Now Mr. Bottoms statements as follows:
Quote:
Your actions on this matter will tell everyone on this forum what sort of person you really are, one of ethics and moral principles, or one who is totally devoid of scruples. Based on the fact that you keep signing your posts with "RHI" and "CAHPI-Ont" when in fact you are not an RHI and you do not belong to CAHPI-Ontario, I think we all know what to expect from your kind.

Isn't this totally unwarranted in light of Mr. Bottoms past performance and breach of ethics on this very board? It is pretty amusing to read someone who has himself been admonished for threatening, sending email viruses, posting under false pretences, spreading false and malicious lies, and changing members quotes to suit his bent thinking, not to mention being removed at least once from this forum, is now pontificating that someone else has even less scruples then himself! Gotta love the pot calling the kettle black. Mr. Bottoms is no friend of Nachi or Mr. Cookes. Mr. Bottoms is notorious for speaking ill of Nachi, Nick and anyone else who challenges some of his bais opinions. His posts on the Canuck list have been so one sided and knowingly much of what he has posted has been out right fabrications and wantonly falsified to suit his own agenda he will say almost anything.

Instead of trying to better the lot Mr. Bottoms finds himself having to defend himself and Mr. Mullens who for whatever reason find it necessary to cover each others backsides regardless what tactics are employed. As Editor and Chief of the CAHPI The Canadian Home Inspector it would seem his ability to seperate the wheat from the chaff are clouded once again.

Gee I guess we got two different letters. Mine does not say to refrain from engaging you. Your logic never ceases to amaze me and others. I fail to see the relevance or who launched the complaint, nor the relevance of a CAHPI ruling that has no relevance on this board. The fact remains you have repeatedly shown what a small mind you have. Threats, use of foul language and lies, sending email viruses and posting under false pretences are all hallmarks or trademarks you are well known for. I have never stooped to your level or acted in the manner you have repeatedly shown.
