It needs to be bonded, just as an iron pipe gas distribution system needs to be bonded.
False is correct. The bonding requirements go beyond what the NEC requires. The NEC consider the pipe bonded by the egc of the circuit. The other requirements are #6 copper bond conductor.
Michael please read the code section that you posted more carefully it states that you can use the EGC supplying an electric gas appliance to bond the gas piping and an additional bonding jumper is not required. CSST has different requirements based on the manufacturer’s instructions in accordance with the International Gas Fuel Code not the NEC.
250.104.(B) Other Metal Piping. If installed in or attached to a build‐
ing or structure, a metal piping system(s), including gas piping,
that is likely to become energized shall be bonded to any of the
following:
(1) Equipment grounding conductor for the circuit that is
likely to energize the piping system
Rob we can debate 250.104 another time.
Additional bonding is required.

Thank you, Robert, for helping lead many inspectors along the correct road to understanding. ![]()
Did you answer too quickly?
No, Robert has always been a help…straight and to the point…no rabbit holes.
After all, he is many things: New Jersey HHS Licensed Electrical Inspector, Licensed Electrical Sub-code Official, Licensed Electrical Contractor and has been a Chief Moderator Emeritus Mike Holt Code Forum.
I respect Rob. Doesn’t mean that we always agree.
I concede that Rob knows the electrical code better than I. However, I have to use all the building codes so once in a while I know something that he may not.

You should concede after all you act like the whole United States is OHIO.
Thanks Michael I appreciate the kind words and if we disagree that’s fine too. I feel that you treat me with respect and I try to return the favor.
You have for years. I am glad that they respect your electrical knowledge.
All I am trying to do is help inspectors combine existing rules with new rules.
No Larry.
Ohio leads in the building code enforcement arena but we currently suck in our regulation of home inspectors.
Yes, Michael, you should concede.
We are home inspectors not code officials.
Then do what Chuck said:
And don’t cite code?
Another rabbit hole…sad really…when you could be helping.
Thanks Larry and Robert.
We can all agree that iron/SS gas piping systems need to be bonded.
Additional bonding is not required on some material, Michael. Specifically Gastite Flashshield and there are others.
I was able to get with a mechanical contractor friend and the manufacturers representative that certified me in installing Gastite Flashshield.
Both indicated there is no need or requirement for additional bonding on this specific CSST.
What is the take away here when we’re in the field inspecting?
The yellow vinyl coated product does not have the braided layer between the vinyl and SS pipe and needs additional/direct bonding. That should be noted on an inspection report.
The other black vinyl coated CCST product most likely not, IF the proper label is on it.
You’re welcome, Scott.
I’m surprised that you could get through the muddling up of the thread.
My apologies to those that were confused by it.
Depends on what IFGC is being used.
New inspectors need to know that what is/was codified is the law of the land. Not what I say and not what you say.
Not new at this.
Perhaps you are?
