I spoke with mr.Carson,(previous owner) I told him I love their reports but unfortunately they don’t provide and don’t intend to provide anything in French.
InterNACHI is much better with education & support if you want my opinion.
Good luck!
I done both training carson and internachi. I would have to say that carson is more expensive but it is way more in depth as well. I had no issues with carson at all
As critical as I could be about the crappy instructors and the high cost it definitely allowed me to hit the ground running. The field assignments forced you to really get out there and ask the tough questions, at least until COVID hit. When I started in 2017, I felt overwhelmed but by the 10th and final course I knew almost as much as my instructor, had my CPI and helped mentor fellow students so I can’t be too critical of the program.
I can’t speak for Carson Dunlops course, but do like their reporting software. So don’t let their course affect your decision on Horizon software. However I don’t have experience with other reporting software but will say I can’t imagine others being much more dynamic. Maybe cost can be a factor.
Anyway, I also ‘took’ an online course. While it was basic and ok it did feel a bit outdated and of course a lot of the technical aspects did not pertain to my location, No matter what, there is no better learning than experience. Internachi has top notch course and a vast selection. To get on the fast track you might consider a more hands on live course. And definitely shadow with someone for 50-60 inspections if you have limited house or house system experience. .
OP hasn’t been back for more than 3 years… I’m thinking by now he’s realized this isn’t all as easy as everyone thinks.
I see “Aug 20”. Is that August 20th or Aug 2020? I’m not on this forum enough to know. I assumed 2 weeks ago. Lol.
As you get more familiar with the forum, these things will become a bit more clear. God knows I have replied to plenty of old post. Some were worth reviving, even if by accident.
I’ve done it too… there’s a car forum I frequent and someone recently revived a 17 year old post
What does CD courses mean?
Although I didn’t read through the entire thread, I’m guessing CD = Carson Dunlop per the title of this thread.
Or it could mean “compact disc” vs online or in person.
As some others have stated, both are good. I have done both. Started with Carson Dunlop, …. Finished their courses, but did not like their support afterwards.
I found InterNachi and joined, … took the courses and am now a CMI(worth the money). Been doing inspections for over 10 years now.
I am also a CCHI.
InterNACHI is the best value by far.
We bought their HomeBook Report Inspection System years ago cause it looked PURTY, and to be an intro study guide worked well >>>>>but like you have alluded to … as a Report System it was weak and we dropped it soon after.
You can take the free CPI test on nachi and see how well you do.
Funny that Trevor received such a “warm” welcome to the community…
I’ve done all my training via InterNACHI. With several decades of construction experience.
That being said I work in an unregulated non-licensed area.
But I’ve not been sued yet so there’s that!
Having done both courses with a background as a Red Seal carpenter I would suggest you stay in the Carson Dunlop training. It talks about Canada and Canadian problems much much more than InterNACHI training does. I Would say that you should get used to learning as much as you can from all the different sources you can. What we do is very complex, having more knowledge and training is never bad. I am in Sask. and we are also unregulated. I think it helps when you can say that you have done the Carson Dunlop training AND have your accreditation through CHAPI or interNACHI, just another certificate on the wall to show people you aren’t just Chase from down the street. You are Chase the fully trained and competent inspector.
Last upside is you get to work using their software ( Horizon) which is great software and you get a free year subscription to it (worth it!)
I agree, continue with the carson dunlop course!, Then Internachi courses, especially if you do not have a background in construction.
